Reservations Are Now Required to Visit the Garden

To better manage our county-limited capacity and make certain we do not have to turn away guests onsite, visitors to Santa Barbara Botanic Garden must make reservations in advance beginning on Monday, April 11. For Garden members, reservations are not required but are highly recommended. Members do not need reservations for the daily Members’ Hour from 9 to 10 a.m.   

Reservations can be purchased online up to four weeks in advance by a specific date and time. Once a reservation has been made, guests will receive a confirmation email with digital tickets attached. Tickets can also be printed at home if preferred.  

The Garden is open to the public daily from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., with the last admission at 4:30 p.m. Parking for the Garden is only available in the Garden’s parking lot – not along Mission Canyon or Tunnel Road.

Why are reservations now required for visitors?  

Unfortunately, the county has limited our total annual attendance which means we have to turn away guests when reach capacity. By implementing a reservation system, we can ensure we stay within our county-limited capacity, efficiently manage traffic and parking, and continue to provide a great experience for both our members and guests visiting from across California – and beyond. Once your reservation is confirmed, you’re guaranteed entry into the Garden so you can confidently plan your visit.   

How do I make a reservation? 

Reservations can be made online via a “make a reservation” button found throughout the site. Once selected, the reservation process will ask you to confirm the date, time, the number of guests within your party, type of admission (adult, youth, senior, etc.), and your payment information. Once submitted, you will receive a confirmation email with your digital tickets included. Upon arrival, you will need to show your confirmation at two Garden locations - the parking attendant and the entrance kiosk. Your digital confirmation will work, but you can also print and bring it with you if you prefer.  

What should I do upon arrival? 

When you arrive, show the parking lot attendant your reservation/s and/or if you are a member. They will direct you to a proper parking spot.  

If you do not have a reservation and you are not a member, the parking lot attendant may be able to tell you if there are still reservations available for that day. If so, they will direct you to an open parking space and you can walk up to purchase tickets. Or, you’ll be given a QR code directing you to our reservation system where you can make a reservation for a later time. 

To help reduce traffic congestion, if you do not have a reservation and the Garden is full, we ask that you keep your car moving through the parking lot and wait until in a safe location to review our reservation system.  

Is parking free?   

For members and guests with confirmed reservations, parking is free. Every reservation will include one parking spot for a standard-sized vehicle. If you need more than one parking spot for your order, or have an oversized vehicle, please contact [email protected] or (805) 682-4726.  

Due to limited parking at the Garden, guests are highly encouraged to carpool. We have three ADA parking spots at the front entrance and two at the front of the Pritzlaff Conservation Center.  

Can I pay for my reservation with cash? 

To secure a reservation, our system requires payment via credit card. On our site, when looking at our reservations page, you can see the reservations remaining for the day. If we do have available spots, you’re welcome to walk up and pay cash at the kiosk upon your arrival. However, please note that we cannot guarantee availability without a confirmed reservation.  

Can I get a refund on my reservation purchase? 

We do not offer refunds but we can transfer your tickets to a new available day and time.  

What happens if I’m late for my reservation? 

When you book a reservation, you will have a 30-minute window in which you can arrive. For instance, a reservation for 10 to 10:30 a.m. means you can arrive anytime within that window. We will honor reservations up to 15 minutes after your reservation window expires. So, in this example, your reservation will be good up to 10:45 a.m.    

Do I need a reservation if I have a guest pass? 

Yes, if you have received a guest pass you will still need a reservation to guarantee your entry. Please go to our online reservation page and find a time you’d like to visit. You’ll want to select the entry with a guest pass which will be $0. Remember to bring your paper guest pass with you when you visit so we can confirm your free admission. If you do not have your guest pass, we will ask you to pay admission.

How far in advance can I make reservations? 

Right now, we are accepting reservations four weeks out.
