School Programs

The Garden's school programs introduce children to the wonders of nature through interactive learning experiences. We hope to encourage a lifelong interest in plant science and ecology by fostering an appreciation and understanding of the natural world.

California Common Common Core State Standards, California Environmental Education Initiative (EEI), and Next Generation Science Standards (NGSS).

Topics addressed during our school programs include: structure, function, and growth requirements of plants; ecology and adaptations; and Chumash uses of native plants.

Tour Discounts

Classes with over 50% of students on free or reduced lunches are eligible to receive a 50% reduction on tour fees as well as a reimbursement on bus costs. Regardless of lunch status, full bus reimbursements are available for any school that schedules a field trip in the month of October. Financial assistance requests will be processed on a first-come, first-serve basis as funding is available.

For questions about school tours, please contact [email protected] or call (805) 682-4726 ext. 160. Tour payment is due 30 days after you make your reservation. Cancellations must be received at least two weeks prior to tour for a full refund. Cancellations within two weeks of your tour date will receive a 75% refund.

Program Selection

For The Art of Observation tours, please note that currently we are only able to schedule classroom visits within a 15-mile radius of the Garden.
After your tour, gain a new perspective of the natural world using professional-grade microscopes in the Garden’s Plant Lab. Plant materials are provided, as well as collected by students on their tour.

Date & Time

Tours are held on Tuesdays, Thursdays, and select Wednesdays, October-June, for up to 30 students. The Art of Observation expanded tour experience is only offered on Wednesdays, October-December.

Late start is only available for schools outside of Santa Barbara and Goleta.
