Field Trips

The Garden's school programs introduce children to the wonders of nature through interactive learning experiences. We hope to encourage a lifelong interest in plant science and ecology by fostering an appreciation and understanding of the natural world.

California Common Common Core State Standards, California Environmental Education Initiative (EEI), and Next Generation Science Standards (NGSS).

Topics addressed during our school programs include: structure, function, and growth requirements of plants; ecology and adaptations; and Chumash uses of native plants.

UPDATE: Due to restrictions and limitations surrounding COVID-19, the Garden is currently not offering Chumash Uses of Native Plants or Leaves of Learning tours.

Tour Discounts

Classes with over 50% of students on free or reduced lunches are eligible to receive a 50% reduction on tour fees as well as a reimbursement on bus costs. Financial assistance requests will be processed on a first-come, first-serve basis as funding is available.

Plant Lab - currently unavailable due to COVID restrictions

Students are invited to gain a new perspective of the natural world using professional-grade microscopes in the Garden’s Plant Lab. Teachers can select to sign up for free for up to 30 minutes of open lab period for after their tour. Our microscope lab can hold up to 8 students at a time and students can examine an array of plant materials. Lab is led by a Garden instructor and teachers and chaperones rotate groups into the lab.

Cancellations must be received at least two weeks prior to tour for a full refund. Cancellations within two weeks of your tour date will receive a 75% refund.

Tours are held on Tuesdays and Thursdays, October-June, for up to 30 students.

Late start is only available for schools outside of Santa Barbara and Goleta.
