Membership FAQs

When do I get my membership card and guest passes?

If you have provided the Garden with your email address, you will receive a digital membership card by email once your membership payment has been processed. If you do not use email or a smartphone and require a physical membership card mailed to you, please let us know and your card will be mailed within a week of your request. You are welcome to visit by checking in with an ID if you have not yet received your membership card. Guest passes may be redeemed or picked up for future use at the Garden's entrance kiosk during your visit.

What is the American Horticultural Society’s Reciprocal Admissions Program and which other gardens can I visit with my membership?

Participating gardens across North America offer free or reduced admission to our Garden members as a valuable benefit to membership. You can find the full list of participants here. We recommend calling a garden you wish to visit before you go to find out if they have any restrictions or exclusions.

Where can I use my Garden membership to receive discounts on plants and garden supplies?

Please click here for a current list of participating nurseries and specialty garden stores that extend a 10% discount to our members. All you have to do is show your card! Members also receive 10% off at the Garden's Nursery.

What is the Garden’s tax ID and donation policy?

Santa Barbara Botanic Garden, Inc. is a nonprofit 501(c)(3) organization. Our Tax ID number is 95-1644628. Memberships are tax deductible within the limits of the law; please retain your membership welcome letter as receipt of donation. Charitable donations are non-refundable, including membership contributions.

Donations from a donor advised fund (DAF) must not provide any material benefit or privilege to the donor advisor, including tangible membership benefits. If you wish to make a donation with your DAF to pay for a membership, please let us know that you would like to waive any tangible benefits by calling (805) 682-4726, ext. 110. Find more information about charitable giving to the Garden here.

Leave a legacy to be remembered by including the Garden in your estate plans and you may receive additional tax benefits. Legacy members are invited to join the Blaksley Bliss Society and are recognized for their commitment to ensuring a vibrant future for the Garden.

What is the difference between an Individual Plus membership and a Family/Dual membership?

Individual Plus membership allows one primary member to bring one free guest each time you visit the Garden. This could be a friend, family member, neighbor – any one person you want to bring any time. A Family/Dual membership allows two primary members to have their own membership cards and to bring their children or grandchildren along. The difference is whether you want one named member and a guest, or two named members with children.

*All members can add a Plus guest to their membership for an additional $25. Join now to select this option.

Am I required to have a Dog-Friendly membership to bring my dog to the Garden?

A Dog-Friendly membership is not required, but it does support the Garden’s dog-friendly policy by allowing us to provide mutt mitts (for doggy-doo) and maintain the Garden in a way that welcomes our four-legged family members. This membership comes with a pet bandana for your dog to wear so that they are an official member.
