Santa Barbara Botanic Garden

Friday, April 7, 2017
Departs Ventura Harbor at 9am
Returns at 5pm

This Trip is Restricted! - Sold Out!

Only Members of the California Botanical Society Attending the Annual Banquet and Symposium may sign up for this special trip.

On this trip, we will explore Santa Cruz Island with botanical expert Steve Junak. After a trip across Santa Barbara Channel by boat, we will land at Prisoners' Harbor and hike toward Pelican Bay. We will have ample opportunities to see iconic island endemic plants such as Santa Cruz Island ironwood (Lyonothamnus floribundus subsp. aspleniifolius), island scrub oak (Quercus pacifica), and island oak (Q. tomentella). Participants should bring all supplies required for a full day on the island hiking on established trails (e.g., water, food, sunscreen, layered clothing, hiking boots). Participants must be able to disembark from the boat on the island by climbing a short ladder at the pier.

Field trip attendees must arrange transportation to and from Ventura Harbor. Due to the unpredictable nature of boat travel to the island, the Garden reserves the right to cancel the trip due to weather conditions on the day of the trip.

For more information please contact Matt Guilliams or call (805) 682-4726 ext. 124.
