Special Opportunity to the Island's West End

The Garden invites you to join us for this unprecedented opportunity to visit the West End of Santa Cruz Island and see the spectacular wildflower blooms. Participants can expect to see goldfields (Lasthenia gracilis), Santa Cruz Island liveforever (Dudlyea nesiotica), succulent lupine (Lupinus succulentus), San Miguel locoweed (Astragalus miguelensis), checker bloom (Sidalcea malviflora), and many more!

This incredible day trip will be led by island expert, Steve Junak. We will depart from Ventura Harbor and do a skiff landing at Forney's Cove.

Space is limited.  Reserve your place today.

NOTE: Participants should be in good physical condition with good balance.

Participants are required to bring:

  • Lunch and snacks
  • Water bottles to hold a full day's worth of water
  • Sun protection

Please wear:

  • Sturdy tennis shoes or hiking boots
  • Layered clothing
  • Hat

Participants are welcome to bring:

  • Camera
  • Binoculars
  • Hand lens
  • Notepad and writing utensil

Image of Steve JunakSteve Junak, the Garden's Herbarium Curator emeritus, is an active researcher and expert on the flora of the California and Baja California islands. He holds an M.A. in botany, has led field trips for more than 25 years, and has co-authored several books on the Channel Islands.
