Native Birds & Blooms in Watercolor

Date: Saturday, December 16, 2017

Time: 9:00AM - 4:30PM

Instructor: Carissa Luminess

Location: Arroyo Room

Due to the uncertainty of the Thomas Fire, this class has been postponed. New date TBD.

Let nature inspire you

We will stroll through the garden and be inspired by the color combinations, patterns and textures in Nature's design. In the comfort of an indoor workspace we will make bouquets from flowers gathered in the garden to paint from life, along with a photo of a native bird or butterfly of your choosing. You will be guided step-by-step in creating a contour drawing and then painting your subject, using vibrant india ink watercolors to produce a beautifully lyrical finished painting. There will be a variety of demos in various techniques and personal one-on-one direction in developing your individual piece of art.

All materials provided. Please bring a sack lunch for a 30 minute lunch break.

Image of Carissa LuminessCarissa Joie Luminess enjoyed a well-rounded bi-coastal upbringing between California and upstate NY, studying at The Academy of Art in San Francisco and receiving her MFA in Painting from the State University of NY at Albany in 1985 where she was awarded the Presidential Award for Excellence in Art.

Carissa spent the next 20 years in Eugene, OR raising her family and successfully making a living as a full time artist, exhibiting and selling widely in the Pacific Northwest.

In 2006, following the message from a dream, Carissa moved to Santa Barbara, where she met the literal man of her dreams her first day there in a fairy tale like event. The fairy tale has continued on in their charmed life in an enchanted ocean front home perched on the bluffs where she paints the abundant beauty and magic of her paradise.

Her work has been licensed as fabric, greeting cards, wooden puzzles, gift wrap and more. Carissa has become increasingly interested in sharing the joy of watercolor painting with the Santa Barbara community through teaching workshops and classes.
