Bring your tech to the Garden

Did you know that an iPad or another tablet can be used to make studio-quality fine art? Join professional fine artist, Masha Keating, for an introductory exploration into a digital art studio that can travel with you anywhere—including the Garden. iPads, compatible with a stylus such as Apple Pencil, are becoming the most powerful and creative digital tool in the industry.

As a professional artist with over 20 years of experience, Masha has made the transition from working with oil and acrylic paints to using digital brushes, while maintaining extraordinary quality and aesthetics. Students will be introduced to the tools for making digital art, techniques for maximizing the quality of digital tools and given time to experiment with their new-found skills. The Garden will provide invaluable inspiration and photographic opportunity to capture the imagery needed to begin a digital composition.

Students will need to bring their own iPad, preloaded with the Procreate app and all necessary chargers. A pressure sensitive stylus, such as Apple Pencil is highly recommended. The Garden will have several iPads for loan, but you will have to reserve in advance, as supplies are limited. It is encouraged that all students supply their own materials.

Image of Masha Keating, digital artistMasha Keating's paintings, whether oil, acrylic or digital, explore the visual elements found in the natural world around us. Her art stems from an intricate play between intense color, modeled light and abstract forms—all weaving a tapestry of emotions across the canvas. With a vivid palette and her signature meandering lines, Keating draws her viewers in and delivers a sense of energy and vitality that is present in each of her large scale paintings.

Born in Moscow, Russia, Keating immigrated to America with her family in 1991. Upon graduation from Otis College of Art and Design, she settled in Santa Barbara, California, where she currently lives and paints. Keating has had over thirty-five solo and group shows combined. She is active in numerous art organizations and recently collaborated on the Peoples’ Self Help Housing and Santa Barbara Arts Fund fifty-foot digital public art mural—Jardin de las Rosas.
