Explore Mission Creek, and learn about the insects that live there. What do they tell us about water quality? How do they rely on native plants? We will bring living specimens back to the Plant Lab for a closer look through the microscope.

Instructor

Frederique Lavoipierre, Director of EducationFrederique Lavoipierre is the Director of Education at the Garden. In addition to teaching at the Garden, she also gives presentations on many aspects of sustainable landscaping, including ecological principles and practices, habitat gardens, beneficial insects, soil ecology, and on fresh-water ecology and aquatic invertebrates. One of her special interests is how to use the techniques of conservation biological control (CBC) to reduce pesticide use, leading to cleaner water and healthier ecosystems.
