Santa Barbara Beautiful Awards Honor Community Eye-Pleasers

Honoring community advocates and beautification projects, Santa Barbara Beautiful will hold an awards ceremony, 2-5 p.m. Sept. 29, at the Music Academy of the West, 1070 Fairway Road.

“We have recognized and celebrated the many pathways to community for the past 55 years, always following in the footsteps of Pearl Chase and Catherine Adams, and this year will be one of our best events ever,” said Santa Barbara Beautiful President Penny Haberman.

This year’s Jacaranda Award for Outstanding Community Service will go to Beebe Longstreet; The Playa de Santa Barbara Award for Environmental Stewardship will be presented to Explore Ecology; and the City of Santa Barbara Arts Advisory Committee will present the Business in Art Award to Indigo Interiors.

There will also be seven awards given to exceptional buildings and projects in Santa Barbara, including the President’s Award to Santa Barbara Inn, 901 E. Cabrillo Blvd.

Hugh and Marjorie Petersen Award for Art in Public Places: East of Yesterday Mural, 10 E. Yanonali St.

Santa Barbara Commons: Public Open Space: Santa Barbara Museum of Natural History, 2559 Puesta del Sol

Green Commercial Building — Botanic Garden Prizlaff Conservation Center, 1212 Mission Canyon Road

Green Residential Home — Large Lot: 209 E. Islay St.

Green Residential Home — Small Lot: 1605 Mountain Ave.

Green Multi-Family Residence — 320 E. Victoria St.

John Palminteri will serve as master of ceremonies. There will be tango dancing in the Lehmann Ballroom, musical performances by the Idiomatiques and Duet, a raffle and silent auction. Refreshments will be provided by the Little Kitchen and Hove’s Loaves.
