Giving to Santa Barbara Botanic Garden

Philanthropic Gifts

The Santa Barbara Botanic Garden relies on contributors to support our living collections, education, research, and conservation programs. Numerous opportunities exist for supporting the Garden, including contributing to the Annual Fund. Unrestricted gifts are most valuable because they enable the Santa Barbara Botanic Garden to apply the funds where the need is greatest, but of course, donors can specify where they would like their gifts directed.

Your contribution plays a significant role in ensuring that the Santa Barbara Botanic Garden remains a community treasure and world-class educational resource for today's visitors and for future generations.

Gifts of cash, securities, real estate, life insurance, bequests, and trust plans are examples of ways gifts can be made. Memorial gifts and named gift opportunities enable donors to honor a loved one or a family name, while a special gift fulfills a special purpose.

All gifts, of any size, are tax-deductible to the extent allowed by law and are greatly appreciated. Gifts to the Garden may be made to:

Methods

Charitable gifts can take many forms. All gifts, of any size, are tax-deductible to the extent allowed by law, and are greatly appreciated.

Cash: Gifts of cash, by check or credit card, are available for immediate use by the Garden and are normally fully deductible, to the extent allowed by law, for donors who itemize deductions.

Appreciated Securities: Gifts of long-term appreciated securities such as stocks, bonds, or mutual fund shares may be deducted at the fair market value of the securities on the date of the gift, and may provide the donor the added benefit of avoiding tax on the capital gain portion of the gift.

Other Assets: Gifts of real estate, art objects, personal property, and life insurance may be used to make a charitable gift.

Pledges: Pledges provide prospective donors with additional flexibility in planning a gift and often enable a larger donation. Donors make a pledge commitment over a mutually agreed upon period of time.

Planned Giving

Planned Giving: With a Bequest or a Planned Gift you can create a legacy that will help ensure a healthy future for the Santa Barbara Botanic Garden and our community. By informing us of your intent to include the Santa Barbara Botanic Garden in your will or estate plan, you will become a member of The Blaksley Bliss Society and be listed on our honor roll, unless you wish to remain anonymous.

As part of your long-range financial planning, you may wish to make a planned or deferred gift, a gift that will be received after you have provided for your loved ones and yourself. Planned or deferred gifts may save taxes and fulfill your charitable plans.
