Torrey Pine Restoration Project
In conjunction with Laguna Blanca School and the Institute of Forest Genetics, USDA Forest Service, the Botanic Garden will be planting 300 Torrey pine on the Botanic Garden's Toro Canyon site in an effort to study and restore this highly threatened native pine of California. Botanic Garden President & CEO, Dr. Edward Schneider states, "This pine is among the rarest of pines in the United States and the historic campaign to protect the pine is often regarded as one of the nation's first efforts to preserve an endangered species.
