Education

The Santa Barbara Botanic Garden is home to the Center for Teaching California Ecology. Our educational mission is to increase an understanding of the role of plant life in the natural world. Through increased knowledge of fascinating and complex biological and physical interactions, program participants gain a deeper understanding of nature and the importance of environmental stewardship. Wherever appropriate, our programs take advantage of the Botanic Garden's diverse plantings and plant community displays to extend the learning experience in a unique, outdoor classroom setting.

School Programs

The Garden provides many valuable services for schools. Our popular school programs are aligned with current Science Content Standards for California Public Schools and include interactive tour and school outreach programs, classroom kits, teacher resource guides, and teacher training workshops. Our School Program Guide provides information about current school programs, materials, scheduling, and fees.

Educational Partnerships

The Garden is involved in a number of educational partnerships. Our education professionals are members of the Santa Barbara Museum Educators Roundtable. Currently, we co-sponsor programs with the Los Padres National Forest, University of California Cooperative Extension, and the Gevirtz Research Center in the Graduate School of Education at the University of California, Santa Barbara, among others that enable us to better serve our community.
