Stevens Park: Walking Upward Through an Alluvial Fan
Date: Saturday, April 5, 2014
Time: 9:00AM - 12:00PM
Instructor: Susie Bartz
Follow the gentle trail uphill from Stevens Park to view the spectacular cross-section of a tectonically uplifted alluvial fan. On the way, we’ll consider how wildfire and human interference can affect the natural course of a watershed. We also pass a native village site as we navigate huge boulders within oak woodland and chaparral. Total distance about 3.5 miles over mostly gentle slopes with two steeper creek crossings. Bring water, hat, sturdy shoes, sun protection, snack, and curiosity.
