Explore a marine terrace and examine the marine invertebrate fossils that abound in the cliffs just west of Isla Vista. Learn how a fossil record reveals clues to the prehistoric environment. While we are there, we will explore some of the area's best tide pools. Led by California Naturalist, Alan Prichard.

Coal Oil Point Reserve is part of Audubon's designated Goleta Coast Important Bird Area (IBA).

Alan PrichardAlan Prichard is an avid Santa Barbara Botanic Garden volunteer and geology enthusiast. He has been scrambling across the foothills and mountains of Santa Barbara for 50 years, and has strived to understand the complex geologic forces that have created the Santa Ynez mountains. Alan has assisted Suzie Bartz for the past year on her Geology walks, and is fortunate to receive consultation from Tanya Atwater, professor emeritus of Geology at UCSB.
