SANTA BARBARA, Calif. - The Red Flag Warning in effect Thursday night into Saturday morning affects the Santa Barbara Botanic Garden that is nestled in Mission Canyon.

“When we have those high wind conditions, red flag conditions.. it’s like a hairdryer blowing off the mountains. It literally has a blowing hot wind that changes the temperature at night. It can go from being quite cool in the 70’s up into the 90’s," said Steve Windhager, Santa Barbara Botanic Garden executive director.

The garden will be closed on Friday and is expected to reopen Saturday morning. The temporary closure will allow fire personnel better access through the area in an event of a fire.

The closure will be the third time so far this year. Due to the garden's conditional use permit with the County of Santa Barbara, they are obligated to inform the public in the event of any facility closures due to Red Flag Warning conditions.
Please contact the Santa Barbara Botanic Garden at (805) 682-4726 or visit the Garden’s website at www.sbbg.org before visiting.
